L:a.I, Katherine Morano, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work. b. For my first Independent Component, I enrolled in 2 different Japanese-Language classes; one was located at Citrus College, and the other a program at the ESGVJCC. I: Each Citrus College class lasted 3 hours: 6-9pm and took place every Tuesday and Thursday starting 30 August 2011 and ending with a final on 16 December 2011. East class at the ESGVJCC lasts 3.5 hours: 9-12:30 every Saturday starting on 10 September 2011 and is ongoing until June. In these classes I learned both the Japanese language and cultural aspects of the country itself. Both classes are taught by Japanese-born and raised women who emigrated to America in early adulthood, so I believe that their knowledge and source is credible. In addition, there were a handful of students in the Citrus class who were from international students from Japan, and I was able to communicate with them and learn more. A: This component helped me in deciding my first answer. After being involved in the classes, I learned the important of language in a culture. As an example, during both classes, we've watched videos depicting life in Japan. If it weren't for subtitles, the non-speaking students in my classes wouldn't be able to understand what was happening or what was being said.
