What will you be teaching?:  Japanese Characters
Objective:  Students will learn the difference between the 3 forms of Japanese Writing.
Procedure:
1 Intro:  Audience Involvement
- Can you distinguish between      the following?: (visual)
- What distinguishing      characteristics cause you to know the difference?
2 Presentation
- In Japanese there are 3      different writing systems.
- Hiragana
Literal: The most basic form of Japanese; used for Japanese words (Words that exist in the Japanese language)
Interpretive: Red in Japanese = Aka. Written as あか (Hiragana)
- Katakana
Literal: Derived from parts of Chinese characters; used for foreign words. (Words that are taken from other languages)
Interpretive: Banana  in Japanese = Banana. Written as バナナ (Katakana) Taken from English. Or Bread in  Japanese = Pan. Written as パン (Katakana) Taken from Latin Languages.
- Kanji
Literal:  Literally Chinese characters; used for reading/writing.
Interpretive: Aka in Hiragana is あか, Kanji is 赤.
3 Applied:  
- By the end of this project, I      hope to raise awareness to the non-stereotypical side of Japan and it's      culture.

Labels: Presentations
